Very good sushi...but go for the tasting menu. The chefs really challenge the norm and the results are fabulous. FYI, the location (strip mall) leaves a lot to be desired, but the decor inside is fine and the food makes it all worth it.

Totally epic!

The "Early Autumn" kaiseki dinner did not disappoint. Dishes like the grilled fish wrapped in cedar paper are pitch perfect, and expectedly presented in spectacular fashion. And the wait staff was equally superb. Truly memorable!

Amazing sushi experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/06
We had an amazing sushi experience at Kaygetsu. You would not think about having the best sushi with the best decor/atmosphere and service in a sushi restaurant located in Sharon Heights, yet this is THE place. Rated 27 on Zagat, Kaygetsu has amazing sushi and great Japanese dishes. We had as appetizers the Kaiso salad three kinds of seaweed, ...

Best Kaiseki on the Peninsula
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/05
Great food. Definitely go for the Kaiseki (fixed menu). Excellent!
One of the few places in the Bay Area you can get true, authentic kaiseki. The multi course kaiseki meals are made with obvious TLC and beautiful presentation. In case you weren't aware, Kaygetsu is run by the owner of the former Toshi's Sushiya in Menlo Park. The high standards of Toshi's are carried over here and brought to a new level. Excellent!

Kaiseki is lovely
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/05
The Kaiseki was delicious and beautiful -- perhaps not as amazing as kaiseki we've tried in Tokyo, but very worthy given that it's probably much more difficult to pull off here. The sake pairing was wonderful too. We had the early summer menu but since it changes every 6 weeks or so, I can't wait to try the late summer menu. The restaurant is lovely inside as well, very tasteful with excellent service. Nice website too. :)
A feast for all five of your senses!!! Excellent food and service!!! woodblock prints on wall.....beautiful dinnerware... a perfect 10 if you don't count the disposable chopsticks.... try the kaiseki with sake pairing!!

"kaiseki" dinner is truly unique
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/05
quoting a review, a "kaiseki meal is meant to be savored with the eyes as well as the tongue". we had the 7-course meal, which was a great combination of sushi, soup, appetizer, dessert, entree, grilled item, etc. the ingredients are fresh and unique, but not weird. the kaiseki dinner at kaygetsu was one of the best japanese meals that i've ever had.
