Oheo Gulch is best enjoyed when you have some time. Get there early in the morning. We stayed overnight in Hana, rather than attempting the round trip on the Hana Highway in one shot. Hana is wonderfully quiet compared to the bustle of the resort areas. When we were at Oheo, the water wasn't flowing as strongly as it can. There is flash flood ...
I'm writing a free online guidebook, with in depth reviews at smartmaui.com - Here is an excerpt for 'Ohe'o:
...‘Ohe’o Gulch is a string of pools and waterfalls, starting many miles up the mountain, that flow one after another, cascading over dramatic waterfalls, leading to the rugged Kipahulu coastline and the deep-blue ...
My family and i went to Oheo gulch in July, not the best time to go, it had gone week s without rain and the water was not even making in to the final pool nearest the ocean, people were still waterfall jumping higher up but the water was a strange color and did not look very inviting.
Caution!!!! When the water is flowing, whatever you do not ...
To get to the 7 pools you should leave for hana early otherwise you get there late and don't get to spend much time there before dark. Also remember you can't drive around the island on the road to Hana anymore because of the October 2006 earthquake. You still can get to the 7 pools because they did open a temporary bridge. When in doubt you can always call the rangers station to the national park.

the tranquility of the pools and induced state of mind from the natural beauty make this treasure of the world an honor to experience...if you have the time camp out at the national park, take a dip in the pools just prior to sunset.....waking up in hana is the most amazing and peaceful setting....there are several hidden hikes just across the ...
There was nothing to dislike about it except for the windy roads but the trip up was excellent. The view was amazing and there were several places to stop along the way, which were beutiful as well
We have been to Maui twice and I look forward to driving the road to Hana the most. The drive itself is best in some type of convertable so you don't miss anything. Once you get to Hana you should keep going to the 7 pools. It's not marked very well so bring a map or ask afor directions in Hana. On both of my trips to Hana we have driven ...
This place was magical, almost like something out of a book. This really makes the whole drive through the Hana Highway worth it. The falls are amazing and the pools that they empty into are spectacular especially at the points where they empty into the ocean. Access to the falls requires walking amongst the rocks and trees so be careful. Well ...
I LIKE IT ALL, even the road, which is pretty harry at times, but it is part of the experience! The road to Hana is aroung 157 one lane bridges, hair-pin turns and also known as divorce highway, but if you like waterfalls, beautiful shorelines, rain forests, etc. etc. this is the trip to take, if you miss it on Maui, you've missed MAUI!
Driving along the Hana hiway was truly a once in a life time experience. The winding road up and through the mountain and down to the shore humbles you. The views are spectacular.
