This is about an hour long activity that doesn't cost a thing. There is a small little park that you can walk around and see a nice river and the Needle. Great picture spot. Place has bathrooms which is convenient and it's free. If you are heading back to Laihana stop by the Maui Plantation to walk around and check out some flowers.
This place was beautiful - even the parking lot was gorgeous. It was **free** so the value was really high! There were people playing in the falls having a great time and artists at work when we were there, adding just that much more to the experience. what was really cool was the wild passion fruit growing everywhere and the smell was tantalizing. Iao needle is representative of the male god's *eh-hem* thingy very impressive. LOL.
The whole valley has pristine beauty, its the crater of a volcano and it is one of the wettest places on earth. You can skinny-dip is the river, but you better respect the eco-system. The site of a major tribal battle in Hawaiian history.
Was the experience fun? It was a blast! Would you recommend it to others? Absolutly! Was it worth the time/money? Anything where you learn and experience something new is worth whatever cost you paid.

Three generations of our family came to Maui this August. We planned nothing on the first day, but when we got there we were all anxious to go somewhere. We decided on a short trip to the Iao Needle State Park. Wow, we are all glad we did. Beautiful drive, easy hike, lots of locals picnicing, and a lush green valley that is everything we thought Hawaii to be.
