in '69 little beach was a utopian community. you had to get out to hawaii to even hear about it. new residents would pick a spot, borrow a shovel to level a floor, shuck their clothes, and become part of the community there. the wildest, most lawless and partying crew lived out on the point separating little and big beach. their parties ...
Maybe the locals are trying to keep this one to themselves! The turn off was not marked, it is one past Big Beach heading south. Access and the beach was wonderful, my boys loved the wave action along with the scenery!

My husband and I and 2 kids just visited Makena beach last week and wish we would have gone sooner. We have visited Maui before, but never this beach and is by far our favorite, lots of sand for the kids, great views and great waves. Can't wait to go back again.

Great beach, careful with kids
By saschup, 02/22/07
I lived on Maui for awhile and Makena (aka Big and Little Beach) is a wonderful place. However, the waves can get really big in the winter and there are quite a few sneaker waves. People with small children would be better off going to the Lahaina side to Baby Beach. It's a bay and there are no large waves there.

Honeymoon in Maui
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/07/06
Makena State Park (Big Beach) is very special to my wife and I. We last visited Maui on our honeymoon and named our first born child after our favorite beach, Makena Cathryn. A beautiful 7 lb. little girl.

Little Beach is a small, tucked-away portion of Makena Beach that is clothing-optional. Couples, singles, families with small children...young and old...all body types...You can find them all at Little Makena Beach.
It's a bit difficult to get to Little Beach and requires a bit of hiking and climbing. However, once you get there, it's ...

A family shrine

This was the first Maui beach I experienced, back in 1990. My husband had remembered it from his first trip to Hawaii in 1976. Whenever we go to Maui, we always come here to Big Beach and Little Beach. You should, too. And if Da Cart is parked by the road, be sure to get a shave ice!

Little Beach
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/06/05
When we were in Maui for our honeymoon last year, my wife and I stumbled on Little Beach At Makena SP. We spent the day tanning all over. We decided right then that we were coming back to Little Beach for our first anniversary.

Great place for a Wedding
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 01/31/05
Makena Beach is the most incredible beach. We were married there 7 years ago, with the whales jumping in the background. When we returned three years later, there were sea turtles swimming right next to where we were married. Such an incredible place, with a small outcropping of lava, like our own sanctuary.
