A neat setting but that's all. The Pina Colada tasted like they added sugar and forgot the rum. As for the food, it looked good but that is where it ended. The fish and chips had zero flavor - great potential but that's it - add some seasoning. Also, the teriyaki chicken was overcooked and served on a stale bun. Perhaps a good place to have a beer and watch the water but we didn't see what all the fuss is about.

Great location, bad food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/07
Duke's has an excellent location right on the beach, and the restaurant itself is very impressive. There were live musicians performing and the staff was reasonable prompt and pleasant. The food was some of the worst I have had at a restaurant, though. Perhaps I made a mistake by dining downstairs, but the menu was quite limited and though we ...
My daughters, Joy and Kristina and I just loved the food, ambiance and the service was awesome! The food was deliciously fabulous as always and the Tropical Itch was itchingly tasty, too. My daughters, Kristina and Joy had a Mai Tai and a Volcano and their drinks were a sumptuous, delectable treat all by itself. Not failing to mention, I found ...

Best on the island

Everything was great here and the value for the money was great. It was pricey but the food was actually good and filled us. it was 80 to 90 bucks for 2 people for dinner. but comparing it to other places on the island this was by far the best value.

We liked the location, and the people were friendly; however, the food wasn't fresh and very mediocre. Salad bar was old, and steak wasn't cooked to request. Too many good restaurants within a few miles to go back to Dukes.

Big To-Doo about nothing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/03/06
Was over in Kauai in November and this was by far one of the most disappointing restaurants. Food was "average" for the price - - - everyone seemed so subdued for sitting on the beach at lunch. What ever happened to an upbeat restaurant right on the beach? I get the distinct feeling this somber ambiance was fostered in the guests by ...
While dining options in Kauai are not as vast as those on other islands, you need not look further than Duke's Canoe Club for a great meal in a fabulous setting. The salad bar is huge and filled with so many things you'll need to make several trips back to try everything. There are 2 options for dining; upstairs is more formal with a ...

Great seafood
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/05
Duke's is part of a chain of restaurants all over the island that go by different names. The sister resteraunt on Kauai is Keoki's Paradise in Poipu Beach. Both have nearly the same menu.
Duke's specializes in seafood. They have a full bar and salad bar. The restaurant is decorated in classical Hawaiiana (bamboo, koa wood, etc.) giving a nice ambiance that both tourists and locals enjoy.

Ocean front - watch the waves roll to the sandy beach as the waters and sky change to sunset hues Food is "to die for". I had the opakapaka as recommended by our waiter. It was delicious! Ambiance - the tropical setting, Duke memorabilia, casual, barefoot, or dressed-up - whatever was your mood for the day Staff - very knowledgeable of menu items.
We will return to Dukes and I highly recommend to others.
