the teleferico has not been in working order for about 2 years and they say it will not be up and running for a a long time. so take it of your list of things to do.

I thought Merida was a great relief from the humidity of the coastal highway route to get there. Teleferico was what you expect- a great trip. alert: It's 15,000 feet at the top so take cold weather gear- it's a glacier at the top! NO sandals/shorts..this is serious elevation!!

I went as part of a months trekking and the cable car was definitely a great experince. After being in Merida for a few days we took our bags and walked upto the cable car at 7am and had breakfast on the roadside. Merida i loved it there. The teleferico was indeed an experience which i will never forget. taking a cable car to km in the mountains with the picturesque views of the Andes. What an experience? it was amazing. I can't wait to go back. Love it...
