    The views of the Wellington region from Mt Kaukau are stunning. Often on a good day in Wellington, the South Island can be seen from the top of Mt Kaukau.   • Just walked it with my children

    I loved it...very middle-earthesque. We walked to the top and the view was amazing. From the top you can see the whole downtown Wellington, and the South Island. My children are 4 and 5 and we made it to the top with little difficulty. I didn't see Gandalf and the hobbits but I wouldn't have been surprised if they turned up.

    Its also FREE.
