  • Tandoori festival
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/23/07
Having been well informed of the tasty dinner I had great expectations of a gastronomic fantasy.

In Gastronomy, this was one of the few occasions in my life that my expectations were met if not surpassed.

I read many restaurant reports by acclaimed food critics who were impressed by this restaurant. I can only suggest that their reports ...

I took my girlfriend and her sister to Chanakya last night after reading the good ratings and reviews and despite my high expectations, I found the restaurant to be simply amazing. The decor is excellent. Almost the whole restaurant was full but still we found it relaxed and not stuffy. There are more than enough waiters as well, often two of them ...

This elegant and sophisticated restaurant has been pleasing diners from Dusseldorf and beyond for years. The transformed interior features Beige and brown soft furnishings, teak furniture and 325 BC styled murals, which create a romantic and enchanting ambiance.

    Location and creators:

Chanakya is yet another successful restaurant in the city of Düsseldorf. Located right in the stylish shopping boulevard Königsallee.

The Head Chef, Makan Singh’s innovative approach to modern Indian cuisine attracts guests who might otherwise steer clear of traditional Indian cooking. The nearest tube station is ...

  • Once upon a time in Düsseldorf.....
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/06
This little-known find is one of the top places in town. The food is authentic Indian all the way, with skillfully prepared tandoori dishes, lamb in saffron with yogurt and spices, and a fantastic array of curries. Vegetarians and carnivores will both be satisfied. Just don't miss their House menu "chanakya", a flavorful complete 6 ...

"Chanakya is a pleasure, sure to please patrons who know their indian food as well as those whove never tried it: dishes present an easy introduction to indian food for the uninitiated, and are sensitive to varying tolerances for spiciness... "

  • I will be back
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/08/06
Chanakya Indian Restaurant was my first meal during a weeklong trip to Dusseldorf, and it was a great start to a culinary adventure. My husband and I both enjoy Indian food and found the selection to be impressive. It was so difficult to decide on an entree that I went with the vegetarian sampler, and there was so much food I couldn't possibly ...

  • Indian by nature
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/28/06
This is our favorite Indian restaurant in Duesseldorf. It's cheerfully housed in a landmark elegant shopping mall in Koenigsallee. The chef, Makan Singh, is a former resident of Delhi where he worked for Hilton hotel and learned many of his culinary secrets. He concentrates on north western Indian dishes, with a strong Punjabi influence. ...

  • Tandoori King
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/27/06
There's no discussion that this is a truly beautiful restaurant. The palatial decor and the flickering candlelight gives the illusion of a serene, heavenly setting.
The food is pretty good too. I thought it was a little bit cheeky that we weren't allowed the tasting menu because "the chef couldn't do it justice on a Saturday ...

  • Satisfaction personified
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/17/05
Served under a fancy palace roof, hewn dark-wood furniture, branded Villeroy & Boch as china tableware, this food is so deliciously mind-blowing that it hasn't changed in the last 8 years. The cuisine of the Northwest India is heavy on meats, marinated and grilled in a tandoor (clay oven). The murgh kebab (boneless chicken marinated with cream ...
