I only wish this park were bigger. There's less and less green space but Six Mile Cypress is one of my favorite places to get away from the traffic, slow down and get back into the natural side of Fort Myers. Great boardwalks. Lots of wildlife. I love this place and I look forward to the Nature Center opening.

Nice day--very relaxing

Enjoyed the well maintained boardwalk. Pamplet numbers and boardwalk numbers told you what you might see in that area. Did not see any alligators; however, we saw many birds, woodpeckers. We will go back.

A must see
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/08
The volunteers are very knowledgeable and very friendly. There was a lot of wild life to see. Over all it was a very enjoyable visit. I would definitely go back.
If you want to see natural nature (not zoo nature) this is a good place to see it. No guarantees as what you might see. We got there for a guided tour, which is what I would recommend, not that you couldn't just take the walk yourself.
We saw a gator, and various birds. It was fun to just walk around out in the woods.

Another Nature Wonder
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/18/07
I would highly recommend this preserve to anyone who enjoys a walk in nature. We visited with friends here from MA. and enjoyed the walk along the boardwalk, siting birds and river otters along the way. Not only was it a wonderful day in nature, the park is FREE! The volunteer guides were helpful and pleasant and we look forward to going again in another season to compare the foliage and birds and animals we will hopefully see.

Commune with Nature

The Slough and its boardwalk are well taken care of and the volunteers are very knowledgeable since they go through a training program. But you can go any time; it isn't necessary to wait for a volunteer. The walk is beautiful and peaceful. Take the time to enjoy everything around you. I go often and have spotted gators about 80% of the time. Beautiful birds and butterflies are always there, but there are no mosquitoes!

I visit once a week!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/05/05
I LOVE Six Mile Slough! It's a great little escape from the busy chores of life. There are miles of boardwalks, observation pavillions, lots of wildlife (including alligators), and the plant species are also abundant. There is no charge to the slough but you do have to pay for parking, $3 max. It is well worth a visit if you want to expereince some of natural FL.

My kids loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/23/05
My children, ages 1, 2, 5, and 7 at the time, loved this place, as my husband and myself. The walk was not at all difficult and we saw dozens of gators. We would definately go make if we where in the area again.
