Very educational, my children were very interested in the live period demonstrations. Adults will appreciate all the history info. The live cannon shoot off is great as well! You'll come away with a real feel for the life and times of Sutter's Fort.
I did not know what to expect from our experience at Sutter's Fort..what a treat it was. The volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. I highly recommend it to others. It was well worth the time and money.
I did not dislike anything about Sutter's Fort. It is a piece of history that should not be changed, and should be kept up for eduacational value in the future..

It's all very interesting except there isn't much excitement to the place. The pond is almostt better than the fort it's next to. I think it's that. Yeah. It did give a nice history about the place though. And the exibets were fenominal! Overall, it's not perfect, but excellent for those people who want an informative stop in Sacramento. 3 stars out of 5...

History

As a person that loves history, I found the Fort a big let-down. The Indian Museum next door stole the show. The exhibition was very well preserved and laid out in a very good scheme which allowed total view of all items on display. Even a short movie is played, and this is what made going to the fort fun. I in honesty can only mildly recommend going to the fort, but the Indain Museum is a place I would recommed highly.

Sutter's Fort

I visited the fort along with my daughter and her fifth grade class. I love history and this was a great piece of history in living color. One can visualize the people of the gold rush era walking around and what daily functions were like. If you enjoy history, this is one place to stop. A lot of the original furniture and utensils are on display.

Lots of fun

Try and go on a day when a Environmental Living Program is going on. (You can usually find out by calling) It adds to the experience a lot and you learn much more.
Right in the middle of downtown, this re-creation is interesting for adults and children. I was visiting on business, and was easily able to scoot over for an hour walkthrough. Unless there are events scheduled on the day you visit, no more than a couple of hours are needed.
The fort is actually pretty cool. It costs $4.00 per person to get in which I thought was a little steep, but I figured they must keep it up, so we considered it a donation and it was fine! I think the most amazing thing about it is it is right smack-dab in the middle of downtown Sacramento! Its like you walk through the forts huge wooden doors and ...
This isn't even the real fort - which was destroyed forever ago. There are ten other places I'd send tourists before this place like the Railroad Museum, the Capitol, Land Park and down the river on the River Otter, which is a great way to see the river and stop along the way for food and drinks.
