I read that the zoo was small but decided that we would give it a shot anyway. First of all the crowds of people in there were unbelievable and unsafe. Most places have as a number cut off as a safety measure but obviously not here. Get the money (8 dollars) and get them in as fast as possible was the impression we got. I couldn't believe that ...
After having visited L.A. Zoo and S.F. Zoo... What a disappointment!! Where are the animals? my toddler loved it because she could walk around and look at people...the penguin exhibit?? come on!!! seriously!! could they have built them a larger aquarium? My goodness...I felt bad for those cute little guys!! It is a waste of money...parking ...

sad zoo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/06/07
The animals are in small enclosures and sure didn't appear to be very happy. Ok...so they say the giraffe area needs renovation..and it shows..nothing but dirt...the brightest part of the zoo is the flamingo area with pond and foilage. I've been to a lot of zoos all over the world, and Sacramento Zoo is one of the sorriest and saddest I've encountered. :(

Borderline Cruelty
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/11/06
This zoo is bordering animal cruelty. The hippo was not moved, as someone thought in a different review, he died of arthritis. But, he is in a much better place considering the size of the pool that they did have for him was comparable to a bath tub. The animals look unhappy and bored. They have very small cages and the cages were filthy. I will never go again!
I had very good memories from the Sacramento Zoo as a kid. If I remember correctly, I got ride an elephant! But in the last 10 years, it has definately gone down hill. The animals I remember have either died, or somehow been moved or whatever. (like the hippo, and the elephant) And most of the animals don't really look in good condition anyway, ...

The worst zoo i've ever visited
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/13/06
This zoo has outdated cages, way too small for the animals. The animals are few and far between; the odd giraffe, no hippos, no lions, no tigers, no elephants even though the temperature would be perfect for keeping them. My children left asking "what did the animals did wrong as to be confined in prison". I think that sums it up. DON'T GO!!!
I was thinking about going to the zoo here in sacramento, where I have lived all my life and went to the zoo growing up. I cant believe the crazy prices to see animals, and most of the time they are hiding and you cant see them! I remember when the zoo was 2 bucks to get in and look around...this is absolutely crazy!

animal shelter
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/27/06
I took my children to the Sacramento zoo which felt more like a ghost towm. Most of the animal pens were empty, and the animals still left were out of sight. We pay entrance fees for four people to see ducks and flamingo's. I could have taken my kids to the local animal shelter and seen more varieties of animals. The zoo was not worth the gas.
The location is kind of strange, there isn't any real parking area, you just have to drive around the block to search for a spot. Otherwise the zoo is nice, I wish it were a little bit bigger but the animals were fun to look at. Good place to take the family for a 1/2 day trip.
