Old Town is so great, that I volunteer there once a month! Make sure to check out the museums there, and while some stores are mainly for tourism purposes, there are wonderful stores that you can't find anywhere else. The view of the river is breaktaking, and a wonderful place for a picnic. It's a GREAT place to take family during the day.

  • WOW! That was loads of fun.....
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/28/06
I took my family (children 1,2,13) we loved it. There is so much to look at, so much to enjoy there. The shops and the restaurants are great! You have so many places to chose from. Its wonderful to be able to go back in time, and ride a horse and buggy ride for anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minute rides. My children just loved it, and its so ...

  • Excellent Family Trip
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/18/07
I take my family here when they are in town, including their young children. It's an absolute blast for all involved. There are numerous restaurants for any taste, the shops are amazing and kid-friendly. The kid favorite has to be the Salt Water Taffy shop where you can sample any candy you want and you buy it by the pound. I've introduced ...

  • Old Town's book has a great cover
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/16/04
I was really jazzed the first time I went to Old Town. The buildings sidewalks and streets have a great look to them and I was excited to explore the stores. Unfortunately, most of the stores contain either salt water taffy (why taffy?), t-shirts or uninspired trinkets. I simply like being in Old Town but once you start to look around you ...

We loved this place. We go eveytime we are in town. Not very expensive and great educational experience for the kids. There are actors roaming the dusty streets of the town that are willing to answer questions. If you have been to Philadelphia these actors are just as good.

Novelty shops, good food, horse carriage rides, stream boat, and the ...

  • Amazingly fun!
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/28/07
Don't forget to visit the train museum, have a beer on the Delta King, eat dinner at Fat City and shop for some novelties at Evangeline's! A lot of shop owners will sell you their merchandise for below the sticker price if they see you like it a lot (mostly in the family owned gift shops).

Hog's Head pub is not so great, you should probably avoid it (if it's still there).

Where else can you ride a steam train then walk less than 3 blocks and ride a Paddlewheel River Boat. The train museum is very close by as well. Had a lot of fun.

  • A nice day
    By Sam, 08/22/05
If you are visiting you have to at least visit Old Town. A lot to see and you can still find a good deal on food or things to buy. Kids loved the horse and buggy ride, not cheap but fun. There is a lot to see for 1 day, good parking friendly people.

  • Authentic New Orleans food
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/22/07
My husband and I visited Old Sacramento on 6/18 and loved it. So many places to see and great restaurants. We ate at Chateau New Orleans and had the best Chicken Jambalaya. Before ordering the waiter brought out small dishes to sample. This was a great experience.

  • Old Sac is awesome
    By viperrt10i, 05/29/05
For those looking for history, but don't want to be stuck in a building, come to Old Sac where the past comes alive. The buildings look pretty old, but many of them have been updated to code, as well as the streets are pretty modern. There is a parking garage with plenty of parking and easy access to other Downtown Sac attractions such as the Downtown Plaza.
