My 7 yr old best buddy Micah & I (64) have been there 7 or 8 times and are headed back again. There is plenty for everyone, children, old foggies, historians etc. Every time we go we find something new, or reacquaint ourselves with what we've liked so much before. The trip to and from on Amtrak from Oakland is part of a very day special trip (9 AM to 5:30 PM)
We drove here from Fresno and I really had a great time. This was actually going to be included as a primary source for a topic in my history class for an annotated bibliography, and I'm so glad I chose it. They had a small exhibit on women working on the railroads during WWI while the men were away. Though most of the information could be ...
This is a great place if you love trains like we do and remodeled vehicles. It's in expensive and educational for the kids. The staff are helpful and well informed about the muesum, so ask question!

I love the museum. I went there many times as a child and was mesmerized by everything there: the displays; the old trains; the videos. I've been back as an adult and the trains still hold my attention.

this place is great for anyone who likes trains. i took my two year old son and he really enjoyed it. They even get to go on some of the trains and theres one that even feels like its moving.
I loved the place and it was very informative and nicely maintained. My daughter enjoyed every moment of it.
Thanks to the museum keepers, as they were very helpful.
They made it for the family and do not forget to take your kids.

My son enjoyed the second floor and can stay there all day if you let him. I was a little disappionted in the show was in the theatre. I was hoping for more of a variety. Hopefully next time we go there will be a new show. Other than that the people that work/volunteer there are great books of information!!! my son loves talking to them and they ...
I enjoyed both the static and none static displays. The history of Western Railroads, Mexicans and labor shipped in from China was fantastic.
Worth the visit if you are 8 or 80

If you ever wanted to actually enter a sleeper or diner car from a train but were not able to here is your chance. The museum is great it is clean and very well taken care of. The staff is courteous and friendly and very knowledgeable about the time period and artifacts they represent. I would highly recommend. Also take the time to go across the street always and ride the old stream train.
