I finally visited the Sierra Safari Zoo in Reno and I was a little taken aback by the low standard of the facility. This is the best Reno can do? I realize it is a private operation so the city has nothing to do with it. The animals deserve better and even is one is not an environmentalist of animal lover at least have a better facility to ...
If you are looking for a mega city zoo with a multi-million dollar budget then this is the wrong zoo for you. On the other hand if you like the atmosphere of a small privately funded zoo with clean and well cared for animals then this is the zoo for you to stop at on your vacation in the Reno area.
I don't like to be mean but this was the worst zoo I've been. I guess the zoo keepers are trying to be fair tothe animals by letting the animals free but I have seen animals getting almost ranned over! Runaway animals would get bumped by a piece of wood on the front of a zoo truck. A big dissapointment.

Yikes
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/18/09
Yikes is all I can say...... this place is like someones dirty backyard. The animals are clean, however, they are in small spaces. I didn't see anyone caring for them at all during our trip and the only person I saw at all was the person at the register, who barely acknowledged we were there. Not a stroller friendly place at all for families ...
From the picture posted on this site the place look decent enough, but when my family arrive there it was another story. The place looked like it was someone back yard. It was old and dirty, kindof beat down and just looked a mess. But we figure we would give it a try, since we have been to the aligator farm in Florida that looked worst, but was ...
I've been a Reno resident for some years, but only just got around to going to the Sierra Safari Zoo today. I wish I hadn't gone. From their website and various reviews, the zoo seems like it'd be a great place to visit. Lots of happy, healthy animals that just want to be friends with everyone, and would never want to leave their ...
So it's not a Big zoo/Theme park, but I would have to say that Anyone who can take the time to provide a State that has nothing to look foward to other tham Legal Hookers, and Gambling, With an opportunity to be up close and friendly with soooo many exotic (and some very rare animals) that are as happy as they are (the animals) Without any ...

Poor Animals
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/07
Going through the place, I felt aweful for the animals there. It hardly had a zoo atmosphere and felt more like someones back yard. I wont be taking my kids there again.

love the zoo!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/07
I was dissapointed in one of the reviews i read. I visited the animals in summer of 2006 and they seemed very happy and excited, unlike those you see at other zoos. The animals appear to really enjoy themselves as well as the volunteers. The landscaping was a little bare, however you must remember that the zoo is in a desert! While walking through ...
