We go to Vegas every year and will only stay on Fremont St., usually at the Nugget. It's like a street party every night! Two free bands, artists, street vendors, great food plus the light show. What more could ask for?? Plus it's a much better value than the strip. We sightsee and visit the strip during the day...but at night we go back ...
We read about Fremont Street and were able to fit it into our schedule and we are soooo glad we did. It was a very cool experience, very well done. I highly recommend anyone visiting Vegas should go to the Fremont Street experience.

Dirty, Old, Worn, Bad Looking Hookers & their pimp in the lobby. My daughter had her bathrobe stolen from the room by the cleaning staff (I assume). Slow registration. When we left my husband lifted the mattress..why..I dunno.. there was a huge blood stain on the mattress. It looked like a baby was born on it or a murder or suicide? Terrible. Cheaper..yes..but this is a great example of you get what you pay for!

Great Experience but I still like the Strip better
First of all, people please learn how to spell Fremont. It is ONE E not TWO!!! I liked the Fremont St. Experience however, I would NEVER stay down there. It is too old and a LOT of shady people. Be careful to all you first time tourists. It is actually NOT a good part of town so don't venture out too far in that area. I am a LV Strip ...
Fremont street was a blast. The casino were funner then the strip. Better luck I think. You must see!!!

downtown las vegas is definitely a better value then the strip. Limits are much cheaper with better odds, also the slots tend to pay better as well. My first trip to vegas i made the mistake on staying at the excalibur which is all the way on the south end of the strip, but being budget minded, i purchased a 24 monorail pass(9 bucks) that takes ...
My first trip to Vegas several years ago ws on the strip and it was ok, the 2nd trip was on Freemont St at the Golden Nugget and it was "GREAT". since then this is the only place to stay. The atmosphere is electric and the Casinos much more enjoyable, (our personal favorites are Mermaids and La Bayou). Great deals on food and of course ...

I'm still in awe 6 months later. Going again in February when it's cooler. It was 103 when we arrived end of August for 4 days and then it got hotter! Going for 5 days this time as there's too much too see in just a few days. More trips planned already.
Went to Fremont Street in December 2008. This was my first time downtown since 2001 and was impressed by the improvements (except for some homeless) things were much cleaner with kind of a carnival feeling. Worth checking out, but would still much rather stay on the strip.
