Saw lots of beautiful, content animals on our trip, the cheetahs and meerkats were especially entertaining. Definitely very spread out, but that's to the benefit of the animals who get bigger enclosures! People adverse to exercise may consider taking the tram or the train (or staying at home and watching Animal Planet). My only complaint is ...
We took our son today to the zoo, we have lived here all our lives. The run-down nature of the zoo is a terrible shame. The Ape House is abandoned and is deteriorating before your eyes. We asked a Zoo employee about it, and she said it is because the City and the owners cannot decide on what to do with the space; so it just sits. Ridiculous. I ...

horrible

Wouldn't recommend this zoo at all. We walked for what seemed like hours and saw very few animals. Too spread out for what animal attractions they offer. Very disappointing elephant exhibit, giraffes are really far from view. I recommend going to the Deanna Rose petting zoo in Shawnee, KS (about 20 minutes outside KC) and its free.

No thanks...

This zoo is too spread out, and I was exhausted from walking before I saw much of anything. Most of the exhibits are set up such that you can hardly see the animals. Alot of the animals (like the tigers) that should've had a bigger exhibit were stuck in small cages hard to find. I think the peacock had a bigger cage than the jungle cats. Wont' be back...

Where are the animals
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/09
True this zoo offers some nice scenery (if you like trees and bushes and a bit of water), but overall you do some serious walking just to get from point A to point B, and the few times I have been there it seems like most of the larger animals are sleeping in places you can't view them. If you have never been to a zoo, then yes you may think ...
The KC zoo is very spread out but I see that as a plus. It doesn't have the number of species other large zoo's have but what it does, it does well. The Australia and Africa exhibits are as good as any exhibits in the country. The main drawback of the zoo for me is not the spread out nature which requires a lot of walking, it is the lack ...
It has gotten a lot better. The animals are put in more suitable environments, and have animal enrichment. They also have zoo keepers around(certain times/tells on map) to inform you on the animals ans such. It is clean and they upkeep it pretty well. Heard next year they are supposed to get a tropical indoor rain forest and in 2010 supposed to get Polar bears.

Kansas City be proud of your zoo!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/08
KC should be proud that they have such a nice zoo. This is a very nice and clean zoo! We took our granddaughter and she loved it! It had been 11 years since we had been there with our own kids and there were so many improvements! I think the should add artic and more aquatic animals to the zoo! KC Zoo -Keep up the good work!

Wholly Buckets
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/08
This was my first time back to the KC Zoo in 10 years. I can still recall the old ape house and the sad state of affairs at the zoo. What a surprise! It has changed from the little zoo stuck in the 70's to a clean modern and excellent place to spend the day. The animals don't look sad anymore as the zoo spread them out and gave them some ...

KC's zoo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/25/08
My and wife and I have recently moved to the Kansas City area. We enjoyed our time at the KC Zoo. Some of the exhibits (lions, leopard, kangaroos/wallabies, elephants, etc.) allow visitors to get very close to the animals so that they are easy to see. Previous reviewers have commented that the exhibits are very spread out; We did a lot of ...
