Belle Isle (beautiful island) was once the home of General Alexander Macomb whose memorial statue is on the island. In the 1880s the park was designed and landscaped by park designer Frederick Law Olmsted who also designed New York's Central Park. There are several picnic shelters and a variety of things to do and see on Belle Isle.

It was probably nice at one one but it was overrun with minority (not saying which one). Not a very good place for the family anymore.

I have loved this park since I was a child in the Winter,Spring, Summer, & Fall I love to visit our Beautiful Island park....

Belle Isle is much more than it's reputation lets on...a great place for a picnic or a pick up soccer game. The fountain is beautiful, and the island is full of life on any Sunday.

Belle Isle might be the most famous part of Detroit. From being a kid playing in the huge playground to older an partying there, its always a great time. Some times it does get kind of crazy, but all around great place for everyone

It was crowded but alot of people were taking advantage of the day an had a bunch of reunions going on, plus there was a wedding photo session at the fountain which was great....They have a water park, beach, and picnic tables. It's also home to the Detroit Boat Club. I was throughly impressed and am glad I went to see it....Detroit should be proud and do whatever they can to preserve and continue the use of this park for future generations.
