I didn't like that they started the tours five mins. apart. You could hardly hear what was being said in the room you were in because of the tour guide or actor in the next room yelling and screaming. This was in the Spirit of the Gables tour, I didn't do the regular tour of the grounds and house.

Makes the book come alive

Re-read the book before visiting Salem. Usually a book is only pages full of words, but visiting the House of Seven Gables brought the characters to life in a very real sense. It was an interesting tour of a great old house filled with history that transports you back to the actual time and place.

Hawthorne’s Haunting Classic Comes Alive
(Derry, NH) – The Music and Drama Company will bring to life Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel, The House of the Seven Gables, which tells of mysterious deaths, hidden documents, ghosts of those long dead and lovers from opposite sides of a centuries-old curse surround a secret ...
The one thing I liked about this tour was that you had to take a guided tour. This allowed me to really be able to see all there was to this house. Without the history to go with it you wouldn't be able to know that some aspects were added after the book was written to follow along with that story. The only disappointment I had was that I ...
Toured this house several years ago, 1999, and really enjoyed it. Yes it gets crowded I suppose but maybe you should call or E-mail ahead of time to find the least crowded time to go see it. My wife and I enjoy history and plan to return some time, hopefully in the next year or two and stay longer in Salem. We've got the next year booked up for trips already.
I'm not a big fan of the book but the place is really beautiful. I'd say if your a fan then def. go. Lots of information. I wish that more of the house was open to explore.

Interesting tour

The tour was interesting and the tour guide knew the tour inside and out. There is a neat secret compartment you get to venture to inside the house. However, the tour is a little overpriced considering the short length of the tour. I would say this would be something to do if you have extra time in Salem.
Very informative tour guides, excellent tour all around. If you go during the October month, I would suggest going during the week instead of the weekend....it can get extremely crowded.
I enjoyed the house but it was hard to move around in because of all the people. You dont get to see every room only a few.The house was huge.I would go back.It was nice to learn about the house!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR AT ANYTIME OF THE YEAR..WE DO IT OFTEN...WE JUST DID THE "SPIRITS"TOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PAST HALLOWEEN...AND IT WAS EXCELLENT...IF YOU GO FOR HAUNTED HAPPENINGS MAKE SURE TO FIT THIS INTO YOUR ITINERARY!! THE ACTORS WERE OUTSTANDING!!!!
