Beautiful example of the rural-park cemetery movement that swept the nation from the 1830's to 1860's. This cemetery was opened in 1859, right before the city's Municipal Cemetery was closed in 1864. The bodies were moved to here, Graceland, and Oakwoods. Fabulous mausoleum also, and beautiful monuents and private maus's on the grounds.
I've been to Rosehill several times, lovely place to visit. The gates are by Wiliam Boyington who desogned teh Chicago Water Tower, and if you look just to the right just beyween them and the elevated Metra tracks you can see the stairs to the old funeral train platform.
