  • Chinatown Chicago
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 11/25/04
Chinatown is a cultural experience near downtown Chicago. It is both authentic and touristy.

There are two major streets (Wentworth and Cermak) that cover a good chunk of the touristy-areas.

You can easily spend all day here and enjoy the sites and food of China. The prices are very reasonable.

The areas surrounding Chinatown are mostly ...

Chicago's Chinatown is probably the 2nd or 3rd largest in the country in terms of it's generations of Chinese populace and Chinese owned real estate. Other cities like NYC, SF, LA, and even Boston, also come to mind for Chinatowns, but they are often sprawling and interspersed throughout their respective cities. Chicago's Chinatown ...

  • Quite Interesting
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/24/05
I guess if you're from Burbank the suburb, going to a mall without a Versace would be considered ghetto too. The place is no Michigan Avenue, but it's safe and the food is good and the atmosphere interesting. Try some midday tea and dim sum, it is like a slice of heaven at a reasonable price. Stroll along and check out some family operated shops, it's quite striking. Some things you just won't find it in any cookie cutter suburb.

  • YUMMY FOOD
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/20/05
I highly reccomend going to joy yee's for lunch or dinner. The menu is very broad and the food is delicious. It can be a little crowded, but only because the food is so good. Great bubble teas and interesting stores to stroll into after your meal.

  • Be fortunate that you went to chinatown
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/12/05
It is ridiculous that people can actually dislike Chinatown. I've been to several chinatowns in the US,(including Hong Kong and China) and I gotta say, Chicago's chinatown was one of the cleanest. The run-down shops/restaurants is the unique aspect of the experience and the smell of garbage is as authentic as you can get for a old time ...

  • Stay in Burbank
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/26/05
Ah yes, Burbank, Il. First of all, it's spelled SEWERAGE. Secondly, you are a rude person for making that comment. Chinatown is a great cultural experience. It may not be your culture, but that's the whole point. We are fortunate to live in a city (and suburbs) that has a variety of ethnic enclaves where we can experience something other than what we are familiar. Hey, Chinatown ain't Duke's; perhaps that is your problem.

  • Good cheap eats...
    By chua_herbert, 09/15/06
Unlike its bigger counterparts in New York and San Francisco, Chicago's Chinatown is located away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and is surprisingly clean and not as crowded. Hop onto the Red Line CTA train and come here for the cheap good traditional chinese food such as dim sum and peking duck.

  • Half way decent
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/26/06
Definately worth a side trip, but don't plan more than an hour or two. It is just like being in China but cleaner, although the people were less friendly than when I was in China.
If you're looking for goodies to buy that are authentic, this is the place to go. Lots of good buys for stuff like clothing, purses, vases and jade. The bakerys ...
