This cemetary is beautifully set in an extinct crater of a volcano. You arrive there and cannot believe that this place is in fact a cemetary. The monuments there are terrific and the view from the top of the memorial is wonderful. you can see all of honolulu and waikiki from up there.

Very Moving experience

I was in the U.S.Navy when I visited the punch bowl. My ship the USS Sterett CG-31 was doing upgrades to the weapons systems while we were there for six weeks. My mother had 2 cousins that were killed during WWII. I found both of their names listed on the walls there. It was very moving to be there. I suggest driving or by bus or taxi. I rode ...
A touching memorial to our veterans. Almost as moving as Arlington. There is a computer in the ofice which can search for graves by name. Take time to study the memorial itself. The mosiac maps are awesome. The view from the top is one of the best in town. Roberts stars & stripes tour is the only group aloowed in the memorial because of vandalism to the elm trees. Go on your own the drive up in the hills

Brings back memories
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/05
My wife and I went there the first time because I remembered seeing it on a news show years ago. What we saw there was more moving than I could have immagined. My wife's father served in the Pacific during WWII and she was very emmotional about the experience.
You can say for 15 minutes or all day. I will definitely return the next time we are in Hawaii.

What a wonderful experience!

Our trip to Punchbowl was one we will never forget. We saw friends and family members drop off beer and food (sushi, blueberries, chex mix etc.) at their loved one gravesites located at the beautiful Punchbowl National Cemetery. We actually witnessed a 21 gun salute! A moving and emotional experience. A awesome tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for our great country.
This is a great place to pay respect to those that gave the ulimate sacrifice of keeping a free world. A second benifit is the view of of Honolulu. I will garentee it to be second to none and it is free!
The view is absolutely breathtaking! Best time to visit is early morning/late afternoon, as there is a lot of walking. Anyone interested in American history will find this experience moving.

This cemetery touches your heart much like Pearl Harbor. Just to see the graves stretching into the distance is a very humbling experience.

You will probably never see a more beautiful cemetery than the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific aka Punchbowl Cemetery. This was our first trip to Hawaii. We specifically wanted to visit Oahu to see this cemetery and the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The cemetery is located in the crater of an extinct volcano hence the name ...
