A perfect place for children and adults. It's intimate - but the depth of the marine life is well worth it. It's a great 1 - 2 hour excursion and you can just get lost in the world there.
The endangered Hawaiian monk seals are adorable and I could have watched them the entire trip.
There's a huge lawn for children to run around on or to sit after going through the galleries.
I love the jellies!

You get all the hype.,It's just not worth it.You pay 7.50 or so to get in depending if you can get a military discount. It is like 20 fish tanks and that is it. No food,Just a vending machine.Very boring you can see the whole thing in 5 minutes! Don't go.Your kids will be begging you to go back to the car
Like someone else said. If ya have a hour or even less to spare before reservations or catching a bus, then ya cant really go wrong. I enjoyed the jellyfish exhibit, and thought it was neat seeing them up close like that. The other aquariums look like something in the fish section of a petstore, though. There was 2 seals outside our daughter loved, ...
when i went there i sa so many animals.but what made me happy most of all is that th animals were very happy.they were playing like they were 5 yaer olds enjoying the beach for the first time

Perfect thing if you have an hour to kill before a flight
The aquarium is pretty small and it doesn't take more than an hour or so to get a lot out of the experience. If you have some time to kill in between hotel check in's or just want a little bit of shade and air conditioning it's worth the $. A much better value is the Honolulu Zoo on the other side of the street.
I thought the prices were high, but still thoroughly enjoyed the aquariums. I especially liked the jellyfish aquariums because of the staging of colors, lighting and glass. Some of the aquariums magnified the jellyfish for easier viewing and another used blacklight so that the jellyfish glowed. I expected a little more from a large city aquarium, but I still enjoyed it.

You get what you pay for!

From the time we started planning our trip to Hawaii, I couldn't wait to see the aquarium. We were very disappointed in the place. It looked to us that someone had put up a building inside a fence and then just added a few tanks and put fish in them!
If you want to see the real fish in Honolulu, go to Hunanama Bay!
It was quite small...and not as much selection of fish, as we thought there would be. Gift shop was QUITE expensive. Much of the displays were closed; some waiting on creatures to be delivered, others, for cleaning or repairs. Parking was not plentiful, tho I guess that would be fine for the tour groups that ride buses? We only spent an hour at the aquarium. Felt like we were wasting time.
