We stopped at the Dole Planation on our way back from snorkeling at Shark's Cove (a must!) and it was pretty much what we expected. It's definitely a tourist trap, but a fun place to stop just to say you did! The ice cream was really tasty and a HUGE portion! We did the maze (with a two-for-one coupon), which was about $6.28/person and it was something funny to do..
We were there in July with our two grandkids. They liked the Maze but little else. Most visitors think they raise pineapples there for shipment, but now our pineapples come from places like Costa Rica. We didn't think a short train ride was worth $7.00 each, with no senior discounts, so we didn't partake. The visit to the town of Waialua where they raise the coffee and coco trees was more interesting, at no cost.
Okay so I'm biased. I live in the housing area in the middle of the Dole Plantation, but my wife use to do the Garden Tours there, and my kids love this place. Yes, it is somewhat expensive, but it's one of those things that you have to do once in your lifetime. Give it a try. There is truly something for everyone. Every once in a while I'll drive by on my way home from work and pick up some Dole Whip. Best Ice Cream on the Island!!!
We took our 2 young children to the Dole Plantation and they had a great time. They're into trains right now, so they loved the train ride through the fields. We were a little irritated that we had to wait in line for the ride, only to be pushed aside for a tour group that had arrived while we were waiting. They didn't have to wait their ...
Dole is a multi-million dollar world class company - you will see why if you stop here. They soak you for everything - most expensive gift shop we saw in Hawaii. And if you buy something that says Dole on it, well, they get free advertising! No wait, you had to Buy the Shirt from them! Double soak! If you want to enjoy the Dole pineapple maze, ...
The Dole Plantation is a pretty good experience but it does take a long time to get there and kind of gives you the same ol' same ol' feeling. Make sure you see everything else you really want to see before this one. It is kind of one of those "if we have enough time" activities. The teenagers (13 and 14) with us loved the maze. ...
It's a short garden tour and with a koi pond. The maze isn't beautiful, but it was a lot of fun for me and my wife. (Look for the 2 for 1 maze coupon in the "This Week Oahu"). Ice cream was good. Definitely wouldn't plan a day around this but worth an hour or two of your time!
My husband and I went there primarily for the pineapple maze. We were so disappointed! Admission to the maze was only $5 per person. This was not a true maze with only one way in and one way out. Instead, it opened up to a garden in the center. The only bright spot in our Dole adventure was the fish pond!
