Sort of anti-climactic but nice photo-op. Be prepared to swap cameras with everyone there because couples like to take photos at this landmark. The view is fantastic and a slight history is given at the scene.
Nothing special about this. Only thing is, if you are in Key West, it's almost unholy NOT to visit this landmark and take the same picture that everyone you know that has been here has.
And why not? It's free... you just stand in line for 2-3 minutes, take a picture and then go do something fun.
We visited this site and found that a local artist talked the town into letting him erect about a half dozen fake tourist statues next to/in front of the southern point pillar. So now if you want your picture next to the most southern point be warned that you have several concrete fake people accompaning your in your picture.
Well it's a statue/monument that's on land. The REAL southern most point maker is in the ocean. The land monument is just in this culd-de-sac area and you stand there and take pictures. It's free, it's kinda neat, but if you don't go it wont be the end of the world because it's not the "real" southern most point...rent/hire a boat and go out to the real one.
