This was the only attraction at the National Mall area that requires an entrance fee ($5.00/person) yet there was nothing inside that jestify the cost. I could have seen more display at a local pet store. Most of the fishes were displayed in small aquarium simular to ones I have at home. The whole tour lasted no more than fifteen minutes. Don't waste your money, take your kids to a pet store instead

If you are looking for a disappointment...

My visit to the National Aquarium left me disappointed and depressed. Many of the marine life looked unhealthy and seemed to be enclosed in areas that were too small or unclean. The facility is located in a basement that is in serious need of renovation. The quality of our National museums is so extraordinary that I remain confused as to why the ...

AWFUL!

It was terrible. I expected an AWESOME NATIONAL Aquarium and ended up with something I could have seen at a fancy sea food restaurant. Don't waste your money! They should be ashamed!

Horrible

"National Aquarium" - it couldn't be further from the truth. This place is a dump - it is small, in the basement of an office building, and contains fish that you can see in any local pet store. There is nothing charming about this tiny National Pet Store. A more apt title is "Pet Store located near the National Mall." ...

Not worth the time

Very hard to find for good reason - it is not worth the time to find. We have MUCH better aquariums located in Oklahoma.

You've got to be kidding!

Having the name National Aquarium on the sign on the front is a National embarassment! On the day that we attended we "delighted" to 1 dead turtle and 2 dead fish. We lost count on the amount of empty tanks. I have only one question - The Smithsonian provides exhibits of dead animals for free and the National Aquarium is charging $5 for ...

Very Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/11/07
Very small selection of marine life. Most tanks were mislabeled. And unlike the other national exhibits in DC, it cost $5 (even for my 11 year old).

Don't waste your time!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/22/07
My family and I just got back from Washington, D.C. We visited the National Aquarium and we wasted $20.00. Dirty tanks and no fish in some. We actually saw one fish that was lying on the bottom of the tank and it looked like it was dying. Please don't waste your money on this aquarium. I was so angry when I walked out of there I told my ...

its small, dirty, charges admission, sad, and is not in any way afilliated with Smithsonian. Not worth the trip, unless you want the historical aspect - it is the oldest aquarium in the US - and they have not changed a thing in all these years, including the tank water.

Waste of time!

Americans have an image of the greatness that a "national" museum holds -this basement aquarium falls far short of the expectation. It takes about 25 minutes to go through. Your trip to to the nation's capital will be far better without stopping here!
