The United States Holocaust Museum is well worth the time spent. It is a sobering experience but one we should all try to do in our lifetime.
The assignment of a card with a name on it will really bring the whole experience to a conclusion at the end of your visit. The museum is put together with great care and extremely effective.
If you visit this museum, make sure you have time to take it all in! They did a great job with the displays, videos, and ambience! The layout is very nicely done - taking you on a fluid tour through the whole museum - no confusion of "where do I go next". This one can be quite an emotional drain, so you might not want to plan ...
This is a must visit, but it must not be on a day where time is short. The visit will take about four hours as much reading is involved. Don't rush, take time to listen to the stories and read the little know facts about the worst tragety of all time.
I lived in Washington DC for 15 years. As you can imagine, I spent a lot of time taking out of town friends and family to the Smithsonians, White House, etc. After a while, I would just give them the car keys and a map. Then the Holocost Museum opened up. You can spend hours upon hours in this place and never once be bored. You will learn a new ...
The Holocaust Memorial is not a FUN place to go but it is a necessary place in order to understand history. It was truely one of the most moving experiences of my life. A must see in Washington DC. I would not recommend this museum for anyone under 12 years old though; the exhibits are far too disturbing for young children.
I would rather not think that this part of history happened, but it did and we as humans need to be reminded of what can happen in the worst, but it also shows of the good that people can do in a time like that. The inside of the museum gives you the feel of entering a train as you enter the elvator and as you go through the museum you can feel ...
A Truly Moving Experience. A place to Meditate and Learn about the meaning of life and the purpose of it. It is a remainder of the weaknesses we have as humans.
It was very haunting and dark as to be expected. I wouldn't recomend taking children there eventhough they have a children's exhibit. Getting to the children's exhibit was a little spooky for my son. I was shaken by the museum but would go back again - without my son.
The atmosphere of the museum consumes visitors. It allows one to feel deep emotion toward what individuals went through and had to endure during the Holocaust.
