I was 9 when I went there for the first time, which was 30 years ago. I love it and glad my mom took me. I was really facinated with dino's, like any boy was, and found out so interesting historical information. I wanted to climb on them but the security guard wouldn't let us. Take your kids here. Not a great neighborhood so park close to the pits.

Awesome!

It's an awesome place to visit - you learn a lot and see many new things that you did not know before. There is a lot to see, so plan to spend at least half to 3/4 of a day there.

I can't wait to go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
I really liked this museum place because there were so many historical displays and film showings that kept me entertained all the time.
I didn't expect much of it at first but the museum had little bit of everything with exhibits, historical datas, and short 30min film, and earphone explanations of some of the artifacts.
I'm a teacher, & I've always had success taking my students here, whether they're kids or adults. There's a lot of interaction & hands-on opportunities. Plus, there are several great lead-ins to not only science, but also history & culture.
Check this out this is verry cool and neat for the kids. The exhibits are neat to look at and is educational. And not only that its on museum row I also reccomend the Peterson Auto Museum for the guys.

I love tar!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
It's amazing to see bones of extinct animals, still in the tar where they got stuck and died. This is a great place for kids because it will interest them in science.
I enjoyed the historical significance of the pits and the way it is layed out. The fact that millions of years of history are located just minutes from the second largest metropolitan area in the country.

The pits are anything BUT the pits!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/05
I have enjoyed visiting the La Brea Tar Pits since I was a little girl. Now my two boys enjoy it with me. From the moment you enter the grounds and see the large pond full of tar, to the landscaped areas, where more tar seeps out through cracks (!) you really get the sensation of what it must have been like in prehistoric times when the whole ...
The La Brea Tar pits is a great place for kids, they get to see elephants, dinasours, lions, and many other dinstinct animals. It was a great time with my niece and nephews. Only drawback, pricing could be a little lower.
There is simply no other place in the world like this: a garden of primoridal ooze in the center of a metropolitan business district. It's not a theme park. The unrefined tar is real, the methane emissions that bubble and bloop emerge from deep underground. And the smell! It evokes a past chronicled only by fossils dug from the ...
