I have been going to the Royal Hawaiian since I was a baby. I loved it as kid, and I still do. The service may be hit or miss, but I have never been treated badly. The food is good, the drinks are GREAT (especially the Lapu Lapu), but most of all, the old-school atmosphere is completely authentic and CAN NOT be found anywhere else in South OC. You've gotta love TRH!
I've always loved the Royal Hawaiian. It is a great place to take friends or meet new ones or... take business associates who want to go VERY casual.... lolol. Yommy Y, KIKI and the locals keep it popular and when the renovations are complete - look for the Royal Hawaiian to be the "IN" place to be in season or out!!! I'll be back. Scotty Mc P - Ft. Ribs, Rats, and Attitude

Royal Hawaian is under construction. On a recent visit , the new owners refused to honor a $25 gift certificate, saying "I've been pounded by these things" and "it's too old." California law prohibits expiration dates on gift certificates.
This old Laguna favorite has indeed fallen on hard times serving cold ribs, ...

Dread going to this place...
By ranebo1000, 04/25/06
My significant other's family has been going here for 40 years and think it's fabulous and the only place to go for birthdays and such, but I dread having to eat here. I think it's resting on its laurels from years past. Long past.
The family favorites are the lapu-lapu's and the rib and shrimp combo's.
The lapu's ...

Bad food. Bad service. Steak was almost raw. Chicken was cold. Ribs were skanky. Service was non-existant. Never gat a soda refill. Neve got checked back on. Waiter didn't seem to care that I didn't eat the steak, like it's not unusual. Aloha!

Ghosts of Laguna's Past . . .
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/05/06
If you're seeking five star cuisine, keep moving. But if you want to step back into a simpler, friendlier, funkier time where laid-back locals and like-minded visitors can sample a taste of what Southern California beach culture once was, then the Royal Hawaiian is for you. Started in 1947, this place is a Laguna Beach Institution. ...

My favorite resturant

I've been going to The Royal Hawaiian for as long as I can remember, and I always can't wait to go back. The price has gone up a bit in recent years, but is still VERY reasonable for the quality (and quantity) of food. I am a connesuier of spare ribs and The Royal Hawiian is the best by far(I've tasted a LOT of ribs over my 42 years ...
