The guided tour and the birds of prey exhibition were really good. BUT be prepared for a 'bone shaking' ride to get there. The roads have not been paved and so you drive over a 'rutted' road surface for about three miles.
It was breathtaking and beautiful. The plants are well-tended, nicely labeled, and arranged in marvelous locations. The different garden areas (childrens', herbs, pond, wetlands, etc) were all very well done and the informational signs were very nice. The path system is very nice and easily traveled. My kids loved the tree ring maze and ...
I guess I have seen a number of Arboretum and botanical gardens from NYC to California, and particularly the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The rough 4 mile road is jarring, and there is very little to see when you get there. It needs a lot of work and money.
Great for the family.I would absolutely go again. We visited each time we went to Flagstaff in 2008. Do not purchase anything from the gift shop though....it will break the moment you bring it home.

We enjoyed our visit to the Arboretum. Many fun places to explore and learn about. My children especially enjoyed the children's maze made from cut down trees. Butterfly gardens, Sunflower mazes and many different critters and bugs to investigate. Fun place to learn about nature.
The Arboretum entails a total of 200 acres but there are approximately only three acres, which are actually accessible to the public. The Arboretum is split into several areas that are small but nice; these include grasslands, wetlands, a herb garden, and a green house. For the children there is a Peter Rabbit story area.
As far as the price, Adults are $5 and children 4-17 are $2
