Opportunity to see some of the wildlife you didn't see in the wild!

This zoo is very small, and that makes it a perfect for someone who doesn't want to spend an entire day at the zoo on vacation. It only took about 2 hours to walk through all the exhibits, including reading most of the educational placards. Great place to see some of the Alaskan wildlife that you don't see after a week of travelling around Alaska. Especially for kids (and adults) who have trouble spotting wildlife in the wild....
Great size for young families but interesting for anyone. Best exibits include the bears - black bears, polar bear and grizzly-under water viewing, tigers-large natural grotto, seals and otters-under water viewing. Other exibits include eagles, wolverine, musk-ox and many more. Good gift shop, close to town, relaxing atmosphere.
I have never been to a more depressing zoo. In most cases it reminded me of roadside zoos they used to have. I think most of the animals are suicidal. Don't patronize this place the sooner it goes under the better for all parties involved.
This place is a terrible zoo!! Animals are kept inside most of the year, leading to depression. Going here and seeing the sub-standard zoo was certainly the most depressing part of my trip.
The worste part was seeing the elephant that is there-- the poor animal is sick and has infected feet from lack of movement-- plus it is alone (elephants ...
This zoo is fantastic! Small compared to other zoos, but what would you expect? People don't vacation in AK with the zoo in mind...They probably do as much as they can afford with such a short tourist season... Great exhibits, great variety of native birds and mammals - and we were lucky enough to see some of the orphaned brown bear cubs the ...
This is not San Diego's zoo and is small compared to most city zoos, but has a good assortment of animals. The muskox, moose, and others are left in their natural state and do not look healthy and cared for like Big Game Alaska's Park or as they do in the wild (they groom themselves against tundra brush etc. in the wild). Also some cages ...
This is a bit of a disappointment if you are used to the big city zoos with animals in more of a natural habitat instead of small cages...some animals like the tiger, and polar bears and such have more room but not all of the amimals have that luxury. I was amazed at the high price of admission for so little.
We have been back, again and again. I agree with, 'don't let the size fool you' comment. You may not see as many Alaska animals as you might expect, but this zoo is one of my favorites in the world. The size is compact and nicely fills part or all of a day.
