  • I lived 23 years...
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/02/08
I lived across the street from that plant and I must say, for 23 years I'd always smell those fumes when playing or anything. My aunt's car window got replaced by them because one of their rocks hit it. This place is not a bad or evil place because there's a lot of history behind it; however, the fumes and gases were terrible to inhale for so long and I wonder if its affecting me now, lol. Who knows? Go Bama!!!!

  • A great place to explore!

The furnace is a creepy, old factory, and it makes for a great tour! I think it is worth checking out, just don't bother doing so when they do the Fright Furnace bit on Halloween. It's not worth the $15 bucks. The greatest part of the Halloween tour is the factory, which you can't really see at night. The "thrills and chills" ...

  • Tremendous look at history.
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/27/07
This is the only 20th century iron foundry in the western hemisphere that is open as a museum. The iron bars made here helped make Birmingham a "magic city." They have plans completed for a great museum, whenever city gov't funds it. Self-guided tours are interesting, but groups can call ahead and get a docent. Visitors Book has signatures from all over the world! Free entry! This is an outstanding look at industrial history.

Sloss is a great place to see a cool old steel mill / foundry, but even better if you like to explore things yourself. There is self-guided tour with plaques showing interesting info, but you can go almost anywhere within the gates. Sloss is a big place, so there is lots to explore.

  • Sacry and Amazing Place
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/07/04
We saw this place on Fox's scariest places, and we had to visit. We were not disappointed! It is so large that it takes all day to walk around, and you are sure to see a ghost or two!

We are going back in October for the haunted house trail that they do!
