  • Queen's Day, what a ride!
    By pooterbug, 01/18/06
Every year, the energy builds up towards Queen's day. The day starts off calmly with open markets in towns. They are called "Vrijemarkten" which means "free markets. This is similar to a yard sale or carboot sale. Everyone drags out their stuff on a blanket and you go from blanket to blanket scoping out the bargains. Even ...

  • A joyous public holiday
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/12/05
It has been more than ten years since I've attended Queens Day in Amsterday. Still I remember it as one of the most enjoyable days that I've spent overseas. Usually I shy away from large crowds in public space; partially because of the commercial nature of those events, partly because of the sense of threats that mob usually carry. Well, ...

  • I was blown away
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/01/05
I was blown away by Queens Day 2005. It slowly built up to an explotion of parting. At one point Amsterdam began to bounce as the whole city went into carnival excitement.

i was blown away by the experience from the shopping and food to the drinking and atmosphere

  • A must see!
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/03/05
Once a year, it seems like everyone step out of bed on the right side, puts on their dancing shoes and enjoys the true feeling of this fine city. everywhere you look there are people dressed in orange, the Dutch national colour, celebrating the late Queen's brithday. there are parties everywhere in the streets, markets, outdoor barbeques and many, many people. if you get a chance to visit, then absolutely do, it's like nothing else!

  • GOING BACK !!!
    By thefog6651, 02/02/06
Queens Day unbelievable !! Reminded me of Woodstock 1969 except plenty of sunshine, beer, food, partying and beautiful women. been to Holland three times now and each time is better. The people are friendly and a lot of fun. Amsterdam is such a great city everbody loves it. Try out the Cafe Van Beeren on Nieuwendijk just behind Damrak it is a good local pub with a great location. I can not wait to go back !!!

  • A Happy free for all...
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/14/06
This is the biggest celebration in Amsterdam. The Dutch have managed to throw
themselves a party the likes isn't seen for
many miles. I visited for Queen's day '05,
and look forward to returning to celebrate another. With the city swelling throughout
the weekend, the crowds manage to conduct themselves in a manner we could all ...

  • Queen's Day is hard to describe
    By Frank, 07/15/06
Queen's Day is hard to describe... I usually tell people it's a combination of a yard sale, mardi gras, a carnival midway, and a rave all mixed into one.

Don't plan on getting into Amsterdam ON Queen's Day, get there at least the day before and preferably a couple of days before. That will give you a chance to get oriented. The ...
