The little known secret of Roma
By sharonweidelman, 08/21/07
Trastevere, can be found directly across the Ponte Sisto bridge. As you walk the streets of Piazza Navona or Compo di Fiore, a short walk across the tiber river you will find this wonderful community with wonderful food lovely cafe's and ancient churches. Since it is not as well known as other Roman sites the cost is not as high as most on the ...

Loved It!
By chinamomnl, 07/27/07
We stayed in this area and really enjoyed it -- tons of restaurants and some vendors at night-- enough to enjoy but not as overwhelming as being in a more touristy area of Rome.

Trastevere Food
By mrfixitessjr@sbcglobal.net, 02/25/07
We went to visit my daughter who is studying in Rome. She has an apartment in Trastevere, so we stayed in Trastevere to be near her for a few days. We ate at Dar Poeta, excellent pizza, best ever. Food in Trastevere is best in Rome. Stay away from any self service eating places where food is shown in cases, pre-cooked and then microwaved. Good ...

Best Food

The best resturants are on the side streets in Trastevere. I was there for 5 nights. Every night was better than the last. The resturants open after 8:00pm so plan on eating late, it's worth it.

Cute area for walking around
By Meagan, 07/05/06
We went there at night, and lots of people were out walking around. It's near the river and a good place for people watching, but other than that there's not a whole lot to see there.

Can't wait to go back
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/23/05
Trastevere is awesome! Maybe the best part of Rome. Being from athens and being used to places with a lot of people in small streets with little stores and restaurants I really enjoyed it. Access is easy and it's ideal for staying out late at night. If you have been to Plaka in Athens and you liked it, I'm sure you'll love Trastevere as well!

i lived in rome for five weeks, and by now i know the city like any tour-guide, but eventhough colosseo, saint peter etc. are amazing monuments and historic events, i found "my" rome in some small streets in trastevere. the area is located between piazza navona and castel saint angelo (just across the river). you walk from the begining of ...
