This was my favorite place in Rome. It is more quiet and reverent than the Vatican, although not near as large and grand but opulent in itself. Go later in the day after the crowds leave, and be sure to get the audio guide which is helpful. This is one of Romes true masterpieces!
the pantheon was incredible, what a large building, the art and statues inside was manificent.best time to go to rome is in february not a lot of people. a must see when in rome.

This is DEFINITELY something to see while in Rome! It was beautiful and magical. The colors inside are so incredible and just knowing the history adds to the atmosphere. I had to go back one more time before I left Rome.

The Pantheon

A must see for anyone visiting Rome. I had goose bumps the whole time I was inside. It's amazing a 2000 year old building is in such pristine condition.

The ancient architecture is magnificient! The best time to visit is in Spring or Autumn when temperatures are tolerable for sight seeing. This was definitely one of the best places to visit.

A magical place
By Dana Blasi, 09/18/07
Only in Italy could such a place be. In California it could not exsist. It's not sprinklered, It's not earth quake proof, it only has one door in. Hey it has a hole in the ceiling to let the rain in !!! ( floor drains remove it) We coukd learn from their zoning laws. "No building shall be tall than St Peter's." Makes wonderful sence doesn't it.

Beautiful and free

The Pantheon is simply stunning and best of all, it's free (a rarity among tourist destinations in Rome and most other parts of Italy). For the best experience, check it out during the day at least twice to note the placement of the sunlight within and then again to view it outside at night.

Set the standard for dome-building in the West; only comparable one is on the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. From about 126 AD in Hadrian's reign. Site of the tombs of some major people in Italian history, such as Raffaello, Vittorio Emmanuele, etc. Very beautiful though sometimes crowded surroundings; try to see it late aft or early am, open late as I remember. Have been to Rome 6 times for a total of 20 days snd this is on my shortlist.

Marvelously preserved the temple of the gods now a Catholic church The admission is free so go ahead and spring for the 2 euro audio guide tour.
The tomb of Raphel is here as well. They have Mass there on the weekends and musical performances there sometimes too. They were having a performance of La Traviata there the day after we left which I was sorry to have missed.
