Here's the key point: Italians do not eat at Der Pallaro. No Italian would tolerate the sort of cuisine offered there. The clientele is made up entirely of tourists from abroad, who pay handsomely for the substandard fare that the signora cynically serves up to them.
A recent dinner there began with antipasti that included two heavily ...

I can't believe that anyone can go to this restaurant and not enjoy the food. It was outstanding. Beautiful tastes simply served by Giovanni who was a gift from central casting. Absolutely delicious and delightful and one of my favourite meals in Rome a must venue to return to.
We were first time visitors to Rome (February 2008) and we very much looking forward to eating authentic Italian food so we surfed the Internet & came across so many excellent reviews of Der Pallaro that we thought it was a 'must'. It took us a good 45 minutes to find the restaurant, down a very inconspicuous backstreet off the Campo ...

Simply wonderful!

Der Pallaro is a must each time I go to Rome. The food doesn't change much but then neither does the quality nor the fantastic taste - really the tasteful simplicity of Italian cooking at its best! "Mamma" Paola adds a touch of character to the place and gives the impression you're taking part in some commedia dell'arte. Just don't start her off on politics as you'd have to stay for breakfast!

This restaurant is well worth the journey, been several times - we are going to Florence on Business and hopping straight on the next train for Rome - JUST to eat in this amazing trattoria. Great ambiance. So typically Italian. Next visit January 2008.

An absolute gem
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/20/07
Like eating in Mama's kitchen! My Italian-American family and I ate here last fall, and absolutely loved it. No need to order, whatever is of the day is brought out--and 7 courses at that. Rustic Italian food--the way Italians really eat. Charming (ate outside), food was delicious, plentiful. From antipasti to dessert, fantastic. And the ...

Sorry, simply not that good

As of May 2007 this is E22.50 per head.
A tourist joint, full of Fodor readers or Italian parents taking their large family out on the cheap with food their children will not complain about. The food is non-descript and obviously targetted at the lowest common denominator - it will neither challenge nor offend anybody.
You can get a better ...

My husband and I happened on the restaurant and had the most romantic, wonderful, delicious meal of our vacation. It was so wonderful we made reservations for the next night. When we arrived it was as if we were long lost friends - kisses, hugs...

Although difficult to get to from the Campo D' Fiori, the Der Pallero is worth the effort in every way. This is a price fixed menu and when seated the food, in all it's glory, just keeps on coming. Everything from the antipasta, pasta, meat and side dishes was delicious, fresh and tasty beyond expectations. Our party is going back to Rome in a few days and this restaurant is one of the culinary reasons for our trip back to Rome.
