Had dinner one evening (may 09) and the food was indeed nice but the service was awful, rude, slow and inconsiderate towards customers. I won't be returning I suggest you save yourself the disappointment and don’t go.
Recently had lunch in the FarmGate Midleton. The Warm Chicken salad was one of the worst I have ever eaten. The chicken was hard the the greens swimming in strong soy sauce. Our server was run off her feet and as a result took over 20 minutes to take our order and at least 30 minutes before getting our food. We had to go to the register to pay without ever receiving a bill. very poor!
Its location overlooking the English market, a haven for foodies, is ideal, if a little cramped. The acoustics of the building allowed you to hear the charming pianist quite clearly thru-out the restaurant without it being overly loud/quiet. The food itself was average enough, I had a smoked salmon salad: the salmon was excellent, but the salad ...

The food is classic Irish. The service is exactly what "Cafe" dining should be; efficient, relaxed, and cordial. This is truly a must visit for anyone looking for real irish fare with a Munster influence.

Just spectacular all around!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/08/07
The chowder and shepard's pie are just too good! We sat down at the bar, overlooking the market, ordered some lattes and had lunch there. The energy in the market was palpable and we could honestly tell the food was from the market. Just an incredible experience - not to be missed.

The farmgate in the English Market is an altogether different experience. The food is of excellent quality and the few is fantastic. So if you like like good food and people watching its the spot to eat lunch in, in Cork City. I love it!

Suberb will visit again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/05
Suberb food friendly staff good portions. Try the corned beef from the market below (known as the English Market) served with fantastic mash with spring onions and junkey carrots and sweed.
The corned beef is what we call salt beef in london as the salt beef sandwich in Brick Lane
