i cried at the sight of the effiel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/17/09
i was walking through the moulin rouge and this guy was almost forcing me in one of the clubs. i wanted to lose this guy and i walked down an alley and found the stairway to heaven(my own words), my legs aching from my travels and the stairs, i found the look-out at the coeur. i watched the effiel at the exact moment of it's last show of the ...
Went there in Oct., '08, on a Sunday. Couldn't move. It was packed with wall to wall people. It took us 30 minutes to get the elevator to get off the hill. A lot of pushing and discomfort. We were with some elderly people, on a tour, and the tour guide left us on our own. One of our group almost had a fight with a smartass guy who was shoving his wife while trying to get to the elevator.
This was a wonderful and amazing experience. Walked into the church right as mass was being said. So I was able to attend mass and recieve communion. At the end of the service a screen at the front of the alter slid up and there were two angels reaching to the heavens. It was so wonderful.
I highly recommend going inside and looking around this church and the view from the front of the church word's can explain.
At night it is looming and breath taking. You can see the whole "City of Lights" with a view that is matched only by the Eiffel Tower or the Millienium Wheel.
Many people hang out on the steps where you can hear a band play or some other form of free entertainment. Bring a bottle of wine and take your time.
Try to come here before sunset, it is amazing. The view of Paris down there and the color of the sky are unforgetable. We also enjoyed the Place du Tertre. The place is great with its piqturesque surrounding.
I could spend HOURS looking at every nook and cranny of Sacre-Coeur. I particularly enjoyed those who were there for worship purposes rather than touring. Their devotions added to the spirituality, the presence of God, the enveloping peace.
You can climb up the many stairs or take the trolley right up the hill. However, whatever you decided this place is Amazing. Once you get tot he top you can get a clear view of the City of Paris. Music plays and people are all over the place enjoying the sight of this Basilica. At night you can see people drinking wine from the bottle and conversing while looking at the city lit. Very romantic indeed...
The ride on the metro, the walking through the neighbourhood, then up the loooong hill to the basilica; drinking in the atmosphere inside the basilica; enjoying the view of Paris from the front steps. Awesome. The glass of wine at the cafe down on the corner was kinda nice too. Run by a nice English fellow.
