  • Feels like grandmother's
    By Lucas, 02/28/09
Great ambiance and friendly staff, despite the hectic circumstances. The place is really crowded night after night, reservation is recommended. The main course we had was a bit disappointing though (overcooked entrecote), but the atmosphere makes it worth anyway. Admire the matronne, live as well as her beautiful big picture on the wall upstairs. I would definitely recommend the place, but advise to take another main course than I did.

Excellent french food, good prices. We loved "steck tartare" and creme brulee a la violette.

  • Discriminative owner
    By A Yahoo! User, 08/13/08
We tried to go to Chez Paul, and my friends (one from Taiwan, one from Turkey) tried to eat there twice before, but it looks like they don't like foreign-looking non-white people there. Both my friends speak fluent French. We wanted a seat at the patio, but the owner or server came out and in a very rude way, told us all the seats are ...

  • Best meal in Maui
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/08
We were lucky. Were driving when I caught sight of the restaurant out of the corner of my eye. Although born in Britain, and living in the United States, I am somewhat of a Francophile, having visited France and especially Paris many times. We turned around and checked out the menu hanging up outside. That was more than enough for me, so we ...

  • We can't wait to go back!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/20/08
Chez Paul was one of the classiest restaurants my husband and I, James, have ever been to. It was fantastic! The desserts melted in our mouths, but not o quickly we didn't get a full blast of the flavour! our favourite one was the banana split-resemblance, long and thin. It had lots of cream, and was delicious. Thankyou Chez Paul!

  • We visited 5 nights in a row¬
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/08
On our first night in Paris we stumbled across this place - it looks like somones front room! We came back 5 nights in a row! I think the staff thought we were a little crazy.
You cannot go wrong with anything from the menu - portion size is perfect, so much choice - the atmosphere is relaxed & informal. We arrived one evening at 7.30pm & ...

  • Honest - Français
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/31/07
I return often to Chez Paul as it is one of Paris most honest restaurants: the cuisine is still very French - and excellent, the staff is half way efficient and sometimes a bit rough (but what did we expect) and prices are - given the situation of this restaurant at the corner of rue de Lappe still good value.
Try the escargot - they are ...

  • Stay away!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
Bad food. stay away from this place.
we had the most awful experience.
we hardly touched the food, it was over cooked (steak fillet),
    or under cooked (le poulet).
we set outside with a view to an old truck.

  • I love this joint
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/06
This rerstaurant is a step back in time. The food is wonderful, even by French standards, and the service very good. The place isn't stuffy or formal, though. Personally, I prefer going here for lunch. eating the big meal in the afternoon is tradition, rather than at night, and the food seems geard toward that. Rabbit in goat cheese and mint is to die for.
