  • Wish the animals had more room
    By Jennifer, 02/19/08
It was a great zoo, very scenic. However, I wish the animals had more room to roam. It was the first time in my life that I had the privilege of seeing a gray wolf, and it was incredible.
    I would go here again.

  • A lovely time

Although not exactly the most amazing zoo, it did feel unique. It wasn't typical of the rest of Innsbruck and the zoo itself had a different feel to anywhere else I've visited.

I have to say, the girl in the gift shop (Mel????) was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen - worth the price of admittance just to see her smile!

  • Time of the year is important

Visiting towards the end of November, many of the animal exihibits would be in hibernation. Probably great in spring, summer, and fall. However, even a warm November, will result in a reduced display (understandably so).

This place is OK I guess if you like to see a bunch of squirrels & rats. Oh and chickens too yes they have chickens. Hmmm. The best part is the tram ride but take my advice and take the tram all the way up to the top of the mountain where it seems as if you are on top of the world! Great view of the Alps. You can ejoy a great view of the town below while sipping on some high-octane coffee or chugging a bier or vine.

  • Really Good experience
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/08/05
It was cool because it was on a mountain and it had soooooooooooooooooooooooo many animals and it had good prices and things to eat and it had such a variety of food and gifts. The animals were fantastic and there wasn't anything that i didn't like but a few of the animals looked bored and they bored me a little bit too.

This is Europe's highest lying zoo. (727 meters)

You can hike to the zoo or you can also ride the Hungerburg Bahn (a funicular). The ride is located at the corner of Rennweg and Erzherzog-Eugen Strasse.

More Info: There are more than 2000 Alpine animals of 150 species from the entire region of the Alps. Some of them are now extinct in the wild. If you love animals and/or zoos don`t miss this place!

  • Worth repeated visits.
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/08/05
I love the Alpenzoo! Whatever the season, there is plenty to see and do, and there's no reason to feel sorry for the animals in winter as they only stock animals native to the alps. So, if you're looking for lions, tigers etc, look elsewhere! The walks around the zoo are pleasant even in poor weather as there are plenty of rest stops, ...
