The restaurant is rather non-descript outside but once inside patrons are treated exceptionally nicely with a very professional wait staff in jackets and ties. The menu is extensive with fish,meat and poultry made in many different interesting and tasty ways, especially the many grilled dishes. Extensive wine selection. The fresh hearts of plam dishes are a must. These are very nice people who run the restaurant.

I am a freguent business traveler to San Jose. El Chicote is the number one restaurant in Costa Rica. The Sea Bass El Chicote is the finest fish dish in Central America. The staff is keenly personable. The prices are exceptional. The Best of the Best.

The service was excellent and the food had great selections for our carnivore and vegetarian. We had a steak and yucca dish. The home made tortillas with garlic were strong but very good.

My wife and I enjoyed the excellent food at this place last week. nice and cozy atmosphere. We were introduced to the owner and his wonderful wife and daughter. The lady was kind enough to send us off in the taxi and gave instructions to the driver to drop us at our hotel! The couple have been managing the restaurant for about 46 years!!

I liked El Chicote because it has a cozy atmosphere with a very nice wine selection and delicious food. The service is excellent and the staff will go out of their way to please! It is more of a Costa Rican "tico" environment than a tourist one.

The best steaks in town, excellent service, fresh seafood, salads, vegetarian options.
The place is really nice, colonial style and huge grill where you can peek your meat being done.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Service was good food was fresh but the prices were TOO high for San Jose. For the price there are much better places to pick from.
