If you want the feel of Old San Juan then don't miss this cafe. The food is good and reasonable in price compared to other area cafes. We were allowed to share an entree and then indulged in some of the baked goods. The "waiters" are very helpful and work hard to make sure your experience is a good one. We definitely would go back.

MALLORCA
By muffinheads@sbcglobal.net, 05/29/08
ONE OF MY BEST FINDS ON MY VACATION TO PUERTO RICO. WE ASKED A LOCAL IF THEY COULD RECOMMEND A PLACE FOR COFFEE AND DESSERT. THE OWNER OF A LOCAL AND FAMILY RUN HANDMADE SOAP SHOP RECOMMENDED LA BOMBONERA. IT WAS A TOTAL DELIGHT. THIS WAS DEFINITELY A PLACE WHERE THE LOCALS HANG OUT. MY HUSBAND AND I EACH HAD A MOLLARCA. IT WAS DELICIOUS. IT ...

Breakfast Treat
By Craig, 05/19/08
I've only eaten breakfast there, but I go there every time I'm in San Juan.
The thing I always get for breakfast is the Mallorcas. It's sort of like an English Muffin, but they are flat and have powdered sugar on the outside. Delicious! I like them with just butter, but you can get them with cheese or eggs.
Their pastries are also top-notch.

We go back every time we're in town, consistently good service and food. Specializes in basic Puerto Rican dishes. Not a "touristy" place. No onsite parking. located in old San Juan's shopping area.

The Best Ever
By Peddler, 02/21/08
I traveled to Puerto Rico every other week for over a year recently and when the plane landed and I checked into the hotel, the first place I went was to La Bombonera and bought several boxes of pastries for the hotel staff.
I have traveled over most of the USA and outside the country but never have I experienced the pleasure of a genuine ...
I saw this place on the Food Network and had to give it a try. We sat at the counter right between the old coffee machine and guy hand squeezing OJ. The coffe was to die for and the Majorca with sugar and butter was as advertised. You have to try this for breakfast if you visit San Juan.
This is where the locals go. And without hesitation, I tell you the coffee is to die for. The absolute best cup of coffee I've ever had. Just to see the hundred year old coffee machine smuggled from Havana, alone, is worth the trip. There is one person whose only job is to squeeze oranges- never ending fresh squeezed juice. The pastries ...

must have breakfast
By mawkowe, 12/18/07
I have gone out of my way to eat breakfast here. The bread with powdered sugar is sooo good. I think about it a lot in the states, I wish there was something like it close to my office. If you like good brunch, you wont care how hot it gets is in there. tip: if ou go on sunday's, go before mass let's out, the earlier the better. otherwise you will wait to get a seat.

Good restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 11/16/07
When I arrived in San Juan while waiting for my room in Old San Juan at the Sheraton, I walked up to this little restaurant. My husband and I had just simple grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. These were wonderful and the bread was definitely homemade and was so great. Enjoyed every bite. I will go back there again. This is within walking distance of the motel and has great pastries.

Takes you back in time.
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/21/07
This place look the same as it was when it was founded more than 100 years ago. The food is very true to Puerto Rican flavors. Try the rice with squid, it is my favorite. The coffee is delicious and it is an experience by itself to watch it get made by this huge, antique, Cuban coffee maker. Finish your meal with a mallorca with butter and some coffee.
