Being a local and knowing this place as I do, I have to say that Il Perugino is a good restaurant. It is a little expensive for what they serve, but for a special day, it's worth it. The maitre d knows his stuff, and makes choosing wine quite interesting. Possibly one of the best italian places to eat in Puerto Rico.

Best in Puerto Rico

Yes, it is expensive but no more so than the other "name" restaurants in Old San Juan (Blend, Dragonfly, etc.) and it is the best restaurant in Old San Juan by quite some. The food is Umbrian so don't expect Southern Italian red tomato sauce. The ingredients come from Italy and the cooking is very authentic. They have no problem ...
We stayed at El Convento and this charming place is right across the street. Very romantic and old world in its charm. The food was great however expect to pay big bucks! The 2 of us had 2 apps, 2 salads, 2 entrees and 2 desserts, 300 bucks! Now please dont get me wrong, the food was very good but not 300 bucks good. A salad for 17 bucks, come on! Very attentive service.. oh skip dessert, not so much!

$270 for 2 w/ bottle of $40 (retail) champagne.
Foi gras with chunks of fat, similar to that found on a good steak, attached?? The foi gras I buy is a lobe with no periferal fat. I have no idea what we were served.
Salmon cevice overly sharp and sour with lemon. Pucker up! I love cevice. I don't drink fresh lemon juice.
Veal raviolli ...

This is unquestionably the finest restaurant in San Juan. Terrific wine list, a maitre d'/ sommelier who knows his wines and loves to help and a staff that is consistently friendly, courteous and warm. The food is absolutely exquisite. Prices are serious but match the quality of the food.
It is located in one fo the most charming areas of Old San Juan and the wine cellar is worth the trip. great bar with wines by the glass.

delicious but overpriced
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/11/05
The well-prepared classic menu doesn't get adventurous. The head waiter snubbed us until we ordered fois gras and then, once he determined we could accumulate a sizable check, he became very attentive, offering us wines by the glass that were listed on the menu as only available by the bottle, so we were able to pair a different wine with each course. In the end the savings on wine bottles did not do much to offset the astronomical bill.
