By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/21/06
Ho Hoan Kiem or Lake of the Returned Sword was once a part of the Red river (song Hong). Through thousands of years of changes in the geography, the lake moved eastward to its present position many kilometers from the river. The lake was once called Luc Thuy or Green Water because the water was green year round. In the fifteen century, the lake was ...

Hanoi is a beautiful city. Hoan Kiem Lake is surely a great part of this great city. Beautiful lake at night, cool to just hang or take a walk around. There is a tiny island in the midle of the lake, and it is cool.

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam. It is one of the two entry points to the country. The first impression you will have, is that this is a chaotic city. But the longer you stay, the more you will appreciate Hanoi. To visit Hanoi, you will need around seven days. Most tourists do not stay for so long here. They stay a couple of days, visit the Old ...

Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam
By Mr Béo, 10/19/07
This small lake between the Old Quarter and the French Quarter is central to Hanoian folklore. A ghostly shrine (the Turtle Pagoda) standing on an islet at its center pays homage to a golden turtle. In the 15th century, this heroic reptile is said to have returned a magic sword to its home in the lake after it had been taken. These days, the ...

Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/17/06
This is undoubtely the core of the city life, a general reference for meetings, hotel locations, restaurant addresses...
Its name means "Lake of the Restored Sword", upon an ancient legend: In the 15th century emperor Le Loi used a magical sword to throw away Chinese invaders. It was given to him by Heaven, and a turtle took it back and restored it to the Lake.
Hanoi is a busy city but still keeping inside a lot of lakes. The city landscape looks like a garden with especially old streets. Come to the center and visit Sword Lake in the night, you can relax yourself and contemplate a good scene around the lake. The legend story about a genie turtle, was given back a sword by Le Loi, might make you wonder ...

Only been in Vietnam for a month and ten days and this is probably the place I go to the most. There's so much to see and everything and anything can be found at the shops around. During the day I'd go around taking pictures and coincidently found a photography club with almost all English speaking members.
I think at night this place ...
