I have been to Vietnam 3 times, and have visited the Temple of Literature 2 times. It is so peaceful and beautiful. We had our Wedding pictures taken here also.
I very like this place! Located in the Dong Da section of Hanoi, Van Mieu, or the Temple of Literature, is the oldest school in Vietnam, giving it the distinction of being the most significant temple in both Hanoi and Vietnam. It is representative of Confucian ways of thought and behavior, and is a historical and cultural relic.

In this place you can feel peace & know many things about history of Vietnam, the learning tradition and many scholars whose knowledge makes anyone of us admire

an ancient university. I lived near Temple of Literature some years ago. It's a very peaceful place. Everything about the place was fabulous - the layout of the place, the tranquillity of the gardens, the devotion to knowledge, virtue.

The temple is something that many Americans don't understand in a country with such a long history and culture. I went in April but the weather was very hot. Should visit in Nov, Dec or Jan it is much cooler then. I had a guide and it made the experience much better. Go duing the week so you can talk to the school children that are there as well. It is a must see in Hanoi and gives you a good overview of the depth of the culture.

Văn Miếu (文廟) or Temple of Literature is a historic site situated in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was founded in 1070 as a Confucian temple. Only parts of the Văn Miếu complex date back to the earliest period, although much of the architecture dates to the Lý (1010 – 1225) and Trần (1225 – ...

Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam
Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam. It named "Văn Miếu" in Vietnamese. Students usually go to Van Mieu to wish a lucky thing in their studies. They also come here to receive a meaningful letter. I have just received a letter. It means "Minh" in vietnamese and Bright in English ;)
The temple of literature is really a beautiful historical site that contains the ancient wisdom and knowledge of the scholars. You can also see the letters writen by the Kings of the past, preserved over the centuries and the garments of the chief examiners. They have old fossiled artifacts over some million years old on display as well as some genuine pottery discovered then. It's really an experience worth discovering!
It was founded in 1070 by King Ly Thanh Tong and it became the first Viet Nam University. You can see here many name of Viet Nam Acient doctors which was signed on a stone carrying by a turle. You can take some nice picture here and the atmosphere are ver fresh and give you feeling entering an old asian mini temple. However, there are nothing much here so you just need 20 minutes around will be alright. Check it out if you visit Hanoi
