    Stay away.

Here is a leader who was seeking independence and, in fighting those who offered freedom, received 31 years of Soviet and Chinese oversight and manipulation. The struggle has now been replaced with a get rich quick attitude. Even the high rise that sits where the former Hoa Lo (Hanoi Hilton) prison is owned by a foreigner, and a ...

  • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hanoi, Vietnam
    By Mr Béo, 10/19/07
Despite Ho Chi Minh's request to be cremated, like communist leaders before him, he was embalmed and put on display. A visit to the mausoleum is a somber experience in the spiritual center of Vietnamese independence. The guards are not terribly friendly and Uncle Ho looks a little yellow, but the quiet line that forms to view his body is a ...

  • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
    I'm very like this place.
Ho is most famous for leading the Viet Minh independence movement from 1941 onward, establishing the communist-governed Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeating the French Union in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu. He led the North Vietnamese in the Vietnam War until his death; six years later, the war ended with a ...

  • bad attitude

Guards at Ho Chi Minh were very angry and made for a uncomfortable visit. Do not stop walking or they will yell at you. They will tell you to bow but you don't have to.

  • Dead man's coffin
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/22/07
I found it a surreal experience to be staring at such a famous communist leader. Im saddened to realise later that he advised his people that he didnt want to be put on display & so feel bad karma in paying money to look at him out of couriosity.

The guards seemed intimidating for no reason & seemed to get off on the fact they could boss ...

  • Uncle Ho, you are in our heart
    By HH, 08/19/06
In Vietnam, we call the former president Ho Chi Minh in a lovely way: "Uncle Ho". Now, his body is protected in the HO Chi Minh Mausoleum.
This place is situated in the center of Hanoi capital. It's very solemn and beautiful. There are always several sodiers guarding it.
When you come in side, you'll se Uncle Ho "sleeping" there. All the sight is very memorable.

  • Don't miss it.
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/16/06
The whole experience is something I will never forget. A must see. I recommend getting there early.
The place is heavily guarded, and Ho Chi Minh's body looked waxy, but very well intact.
