  • Outstanding Atmosphere

Arguably the most interesting temple in Thailand, featuring history, medical science, and a center for mediation and traditional massage, Wat Phrachetuphon Vimon Mangkararam Ratchaworamahawihan was founded during the 16th century and features a 46 meter gold, reclining Buddha whose feet are inlaid with mother-of pearl. Be sure to get a traditional ...

Nice enough city with historical and cultural sights but the political situation is just too chaotic. I would give this country a miss for a couple of years.

  • Wonderful place to walk around
    By JessicaF, 05/23/08
This temple is amazingly beautiful. Its great to just wander around and look at everything, there are so many different things to look at. Also, the Reclining Buddha is very cool and much bigger than it looks in pictures. Definitely fun to pay the tiny price to go in and see the buddha.

  • my search for inner peace and calm
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/02/08
We were on a whirlwind trip to bangkok from Jan 23 to 25. A visit to wat pho was not included in our tour of the city but armed with a map of bangkok and a guidebook we took a cab and visited this temple. It was well worth the trouble. We stood there in awe of this huge reclining buddha. You have to see it to appreciate its impact. The temple grounds itself has a lot of interesting thinks to see.

  • Nothing Like This Elsewhere
    By Jun Anabo, 09/27/07
Marvelous tiny pieces of colored chips of glass glued all over!!! This is something you will never see somewhere else.

If you are tired and want some serene atmosphere, go to the Wats and you'll find yourself refreshed.

...and don't miss a massage at teh Massage School somewhere at the back of Wat Po!!!!

Bangkok is always worth a visit!

  • Rest Buddha, rest
    By dawg, 09/18/07
Interesting and spiritual place. The reclining Buddha was remarkable. Thw offerings and culture surrounding him, even more interesting. An active monastary, you can also get a foot massage at one of the Thai Massage schools on site. We also sat it on a chanting session with the local monks (no cameras there please!).

  • Awesome achitecture
    By Carol, 07/13/07
Entering the Wat Pho precinct is like stepping back into history. After navigating the many 'toutes' outside (who try and convince you that it is closed and you would be much better off going with them to their 'brothers' shop for a bit of retail therapy!) you immediately pick up a feel for the tranquility of the place. The ...

  • Exceeded expectations!

You hear about the reclining Buddha but you have to see this in person to really appreciate it. It's massive! You will have a hard time getting a good camera angle to fit the whole thing. This was a definite highlight of the trip.

MUST SEE!!! This is a great place to go and extremely close to the Grand Palace, like walking distance. It is a great place to spend an hour!
