I'm Japanese. I like animations. Akihabara is right the animation city.
There are a lot of animation shop.Various things such as comics, a game, a figure are sold there. And there are many maid cafes.
And the street is a "pedestrians' paradise" on Sunday. Some cosplayer are there. Some maids also commonly walk.
If you are interested in animations,I recommend going there.

Electronics prices are comparable to prices in the US. At larger stores, you can show your foreign passport and not have to pay sales tax.

Tons of smalll and large electronics shops. Lots of small coffee shops called maid cafes where you can be served by Japanese girls dressed in anime type cutesy costumes. These places are frequently inhabited bye the “otaku” (geeks) culture which surrounds Akihibara.
As a gadget lover, it's cool to have so many stores with the latest far-out devices. My only two complaints are that most of the stores seem to carry the same inventory, more or less, and it's also a hassle to get here from Shinjuku. Speaking of which, I was able to find most of the same cool stuff shopping next to the Shinjuku train ...

I love Akihabara! There aren't too many real bargains to be had, especially coming from the US, but if anything is worth the visit just to see what crazy and wonderful electronics are just in existance there.
