My mum wanted to show me how wonderful the monkeys were. So she found a bit of banana on the floor and tried to give it to the 'cute' monkey. It looked at her, grabbed her wrist and then chomped on her arm. She didn't think the monkeys were so very wonderful after that....
Our friend who lives in Ubud told us the monkeys had become aggressive here and she was right. After reading these reviews (after our visit unfortunately or I think I would've skipped it entirely), I'm not convinced they aren't being coached.
Because we had been warned, we deliberately did not interact with the macaques but whilst I ...

A cheaper bite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/09
I got bitten two weeks ago (17th July 09) and thought nothing of it. I have since been told I need to get the vaccine back home in New Zealand. It cost NZD$1500 here so I would highly recommend getting it in Bali where it is apparently free in Denpensar. Or otherwise don't get biten!

Expensive Monkey bite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/09
I was bitten by a monkey. When someone else scared them it just jumped onto my shoulder and bit me. I had to have a series of 5 rabies shots which cost me nearly $900 AUD. Still loved going but beware!!
I just saw a patient in the ER that was bit by a monkey. she is now being treated for rabies and Hepres type B (rare type of Herpes) I don't know if it is worth it, but I have not been there myself.
This place is great its cool walking through the forest, But hold on to everything you have The monkeys tend to want whats attached to your body. Cameras pocketbooks glasses food hats and all else that they can grab They are cute to look at but do you want to chase a monkey up a tree when he just snatched your camera HOLD ON TIGHT

It's not very big; an hour or so should be enough for you to explore it. It is a great place for photos. Besides the monkeys, there is a small temple and another shrine there as well as the forest itself to see and ...

The monkeys here are indeed evil, they stole all our food, bit our legs, stole our jewlery, and our loved ones. one of them even took it upon himself to throw feces at us from atop a tree. this place is tehsux
