We spent a few hours there in October 2006. A few blocks are closed to auto traffic, making it a pedestrian mall. It was an interesting place to walk and browse, but many of the larger stores were much like most mall areas in the U.S. You are approached often (need a cheap Rolex?) and good advice is to not follow anyone anywhere. For a funkier shopping experience try old Shanghai. Tourist trap, but a bit more interesting.

Nan Jing? Yuk!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/06
What is so special about Nan Jing? For a younger, more hip crowd, try Xintiandi or Huai Hai Lu! If you've got the $$$, try The Bund! But whatever you do, bargain hard and have fun.
