This is good choice always when I have new guests coming to Shanghai from abroad. It is a combination of old Shanghai charm located in the French area, as well as sufficient touch of Asian taste, so it is not necessary to go to a messy Chinese restaurant with strong smell of rice liquor. The service is good, everybody speaks English and especially ...

Concealed oasis

The hassle of finding the place was soon smoothed away as I say down for my first Hoegarden. The food that followed was excellent. The ambience and decor was amazing and the service attentive. Only downside is that there is no non-smoking area. Otherwise a place to visit and go back to.

Boardwalk Thai
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/03/06
Colonial Wood frame house, wide-cut board floors, dark wooded decor and colonial clubby, this restaurant inside a walled enclave was a pleasant break from the bustling China outside.
Heavily tourist/expatriate, Chinese are outnumbered ten to one, or none.
Food was pleasant, varied and pricey but not the strongest point.
Dinner and drinks for two were 600 RMB. No knock-off bargain, but a very pleasant evening nonetheless.

Average
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/06
I've been to very many Thai restaurants in Shanghai, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and find the food at Lan Na Thai really quite average. It very much lacks the "oomph" that you would expect from good Thai cuisine. However, its one saving grace is that the atmosphere at Ruijin Hotel is very pleasant, and that helps to make up for the disappointingly average fare served up.

dinner around an art collection
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/05
Colonial atmosphere, a special place in old French quarter. A lovely collection of art : Furnitures, sculptures, statues, old wooden floor and finally fine and original thai food.
Perhaps need a little bit more light on 1st floor to enjoy more the space.
A romantic place definately

Incredible oasis of gastronomic delights; wonderfully accompanied by a genuine pint of Hoegarden. Nothing better after walking around in the heat and bustle of Shanghai.

Whether in Thailand, New York, or yes, Shanghai, La Na Thai offers some of the best in Thai cuisine I've had anywhere. A broad and deep menu of outstanding choices offered in an ambience unparalleled and unexpected in this emerging city of delights.
